So, the disk that i got with my netbook isn't the full installation disk - and it is stripped down version of WinXP without these types of files - is that right? i think that if that is the case, then it is a poor effort by either MSI (got Wind netbook) or M$ not to do so. i thought that i saw some of these required files on the disk that i have - i'll have a look tomorrow. Besides, the instructions will be in Japanese which i cannot view at present.Ĭlick to expand.yup - i gave it a quick go and as you suspected, it does ask for a whole heap more files. I do not want to install the Japanese version of Open Office. I have searched to download file but again to no avail.
I guess that a backup OS installation disk is different from full blown XP installation disk? Now, I looked thru the WinXP disc on my desktop and i can't find this file anywhere. This is where Windows prompts me to insert the WinXP disc to find the file in SYSTEM32\i386.
I have tried the following: Control Panel > Date, Time, Language and Regional Options > Add other languages > Install files for East Asian languages. I have the backup disk that came with my netbook - and it has WinXP SP3 on it. M$ further states that I require the WinXP installation disk. The only other piece of software I need is the Language Pack for Japanese. M$ states the Global IME works on any PC running on WinXP with IE 5.01 or greater. I have downloaded 2 versions of Global IME but when I try to run these, it comes up with the msg that it doesn't work with my current setup. M$ states that if you don't have M$ Office XP, you can install M$ Global IME 5.02. The instructions on M$ site has not helped me - starting with their assumption that i have an optical drive on my netbook. I want to install Japanese IME (input method editor) for Japanese language on my netbook with WinXP (and without M$ Office but with Open Office installed).
